| REGIONAL SUMMIT OF SCHOOL PRINCIPALS |
On 16th May, 2013, a Regional Summit of School Principals was organized by The Institute of Counsellor Training Research and Consultancy (ICTRC) in the school. The conference was attended by Principal and teachers from the states of Assam, Meghalaya and West Bengal. The theme of the conference was ‘Bullying in Schools’.

On 10th May, 2013, the students of SBGJ had the opportunity of watching a two hour long performance by the renowed Bharat Natyam Dancer Padmashree Geeta Chandran. The performance left the children mesmerized. During her performance Geeta Chandran highlighted on the opulence of Indian culture and the need to sensitize our youth towards preserving our culture. The danseuse concluded her show with a dance on a Meera Bhajan , thereby exhibiting the ability of Indian Classical dance forms to reach out to embrace the world. The programme was sponsored by SPICMACAY.
| WHEN MAJAW CAME KNOCKING |
It was among the most unexpected of visits, one that combined music of a maestro with the enthusiasm of hundreds of young girls and boys. Lou Majaw’s visit to Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti on 9th May , 2013 was an event that revealed how music can bridge the generation gap. The evergreen singer, well known for his rendition of Bob Dylan’s songs, performed only for a brief period. But the electrifying effect lingered on much longer.
His ‘Knock Knock Knocking on Heaven’s Door’, floored the students, and a few teachers too. Wearing the ‘bare essentials,’ which has now become his signature attire, Majaw performed with elan; his voice punctuated by the strumming of guitars. The school band did a commendable job too. Majaw, ever encouraging of the youth, praised each member of the group, which had prepared for the performance only for a few days.

On 11th February, 2013, the senior school students of SBGJ had the rare opportunity of attending a one hour recital by Mohi Bahauddin Dagar on the Rudraveena.
| SUR DHARA |
On 24th February, 2013, the students of Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti staged Sur Dhara, a musical evening. The show was put up by all those students who learn music in the school. As many as 800 students assembled together to stage the event. The occasion was graced by renowned singers Manisha Hazarika and Anima Choudhury among others. The highlights of the evening were ‘Reverberation ‘, a composition staged by ‘Euphony’, the school percussion band and ‘Santorini’ , a musical piece composed by the Greek musician Yanni, played by the school band. Sur Dhara would now be an annual feature of the school.

On 10th December, 2012, a troupe of Chhau dancers from Purulia, mesmerized the students of SBGJ with their outstanding performance. Chhau is a genre of Indian tribal martial dance which is popular in the Indian states of Orissa, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The performance which lasted for almost two hours depicted , in the form of dance, the entire episode of Mahisasur Badh (killing of the demon Mahisasur by Godess Durga). The programme was organized by SPICMACAY.
| BIRD WATCHING |
On 1st December, 2012, forty one students of SHRISHTI –The Eco Club went on a bird watching session to Deepor Beel at 5:30 in the morning. Apart from the numerous local birds like egrets, herons and kites, a number of migratory birds like pelicans, seagulls, Brahmani Ducks. were sighted. Later the students visited an indigenous herbal park and interacted with the famous environmentalist, Lakhan Teron.

On 26th November, 2012 the students of Classes IX – XI had an astounding experience on when they had a two hour interactive session with Bharti Bandhu , a troupe of Sufi Kabir Gayak who not only sang Kabir’s compositions but also went ahead to elucidate the significance of the dohas that they sang with special relevance to modern time. The troupe was led by Swami G C D Bharti , the nucleus of the group on the vocals and harmonium . He was accompanied by his sons and nephew on the chorus and his student on the tabla. The programme was organized by SPICMACAY.
| SBGJ Participates in CHEMUN, Chennai |
A team of fifteen students participated in CHEMUN at American International School, Chennai from 2nd to 4th November, 2012. The students represented Israel, Dominican Republic and Qatar. It was an enriching experience for all those.
| SPICMACAY PROGRAMME On 17th Oct, 2012 |
On 17th October, 2012 the students of Classes VII and VIII had the opportunity of watching a mesmerizing performance by the famous Odissi danseuse, Kavita Dwivedi. During her hour long performance, Dwivedi demonstrated the nuances of the Odissi dance form.
| TRIP TO SAT TAAL |
The annual trip, for Classes V and VI, to Sat Taal, Nainital and Mukteshwar took place from 2nd to 9th October. During the camp the students indulged into a lot of adventure activities like rock climbing, rappelling, kayaking, river crossing. Besides activities like theatre workshops, art and craft workshops and fun games were also organized.
| HERITAGE TOUR |
On 28th September 2012, the students of Classes VI to VIII embarked on a Heritage Tour to Rajasthan and Gujarat. The tour was organized by SPICMACAY . Over a thousand students from all over the country joined the tour.

On 4th October 2012, Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti was visited by the noted violin maestro Ustad Johar Ali Khan who put up a mesmerizing performance for the students.
| Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti Joins MUN (Model United Nations) at Pathways World School, GURGAON |
Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti participated in the 2nd PWSMUN that was held from 29th September to 2nd October, 2012 at Pathways World School, Aravalli. A team of five students - Rhea Hussain, Navita Pareek, Parthvi Bhutani, Archita Thakuria and Harshita Bajaj participated in the various committees like Security Council, ECOSOC, HRC, UNICEF and WHO. It was a great learning experience for the students.
| "I CAN" Design for Change conference |
Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti participated in the first “I CAN” Design For Change conference was held on the 29th and 30th September2012. The conference was organised Riverside School and was hosted by The National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. It was a two-day conference with representatives from over 35 countries participating in the conference.

Tanish Nav Talukar of Class VII won 4 Gold Medals in the CBSE East Zone Swimming Championship, 2012 held at The Jain International School, Kanpur from 26th – 27th September,2012

| Excursion to Shimla, Manali and Chandigarh |
On 10 July 2012, a team of twenty one students of Class XII along with two teachers embarked on a tour to Shimla, Manali and Chandigarh. The trip which lasted for a week was adventurous and fun-filled. The students returned to Guwahati on 19 July.
| Teacher's Workshop |
On June 7, 2012, a ‘Teachers’ Workshop’ was organized in the school by the publishing house, Peerson Longman. The workshop was conducted by a noted counseling psychologist and educational consultant. Mrs. Salony Priya, dealt with topics like ‘Teacher as a counsellor’ and ‘Improving the performance of average and below average students’.
| Blind Man's Reef |
The fourth public theatre production of the school, ‘Blind Man’s Riff, was staged on June 7 &8, 2012 by the students of Classes IX to XII. The premier show was held at St. Edmunds College, Shillong on June 7, 2012 while the show in the city was staged at the school auditorium on June 8. The play which was an adaptation of the poem ‘Dhitarashtra’ by the noted Assamese poet Nabakanta Barua was well appreciated.

A Teachers’ Workshop on ‘English Language and its Usage’ was held in the school on May 18 & 19, 2012. The workshop which was conducted by Sarita Dasgupta highlighted on the need and the means to encourage correct English usage among students.
| Principal's Meet |
A Regional Summit of School Principals on ‘Discipline- New Challenges ‘was held in the school on May 11, 2012. The summit aimed to provide the school principals with a platform to share their concerns on school discipline with experts in Educational Psychology and Counselling. The summit which was jointly organized by the Institute of Counsellor Training Research and Consultancy (ICTRC) and Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti , was attended by Principals from various schools across the North East. The summit was conducted by Dr. V.S. Ravindran, Director General, ICTRC and Prof Saraswat, NCERT. Mr. K.K.Choudhury, Regional Officer, CBSE graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
