Happenings & Student Participation

Happenings

Throughout the year we organise a range of events at school that complement and add value to our students’ learning experience. Some of the events are for the whole school and some of the themes and type of events vary depending on the students’ age. In all the events we try to ensure maximum participation of the students. The events listed below are some of the regular events and happenings of our school.

Annual Events

Annual Event forms an integral part of our primary, junior and middle school activities. It is an annual feature woven around different themes which happens class wise so as to ensure 100% participation of the students. It is an occasion of celebration, showcasing children’s innate talent and expression of creativity through wonderful performances on various areas.

Events and Celebrations

In the line with our constant effort to inculcate in students the appreciation of and respect for India’s rich heritage and diversity, and also to reinforce in them national pride and respect for all, the school celebrates a number of functions including Bihu, Lohri, Christmas, Diwali, Janmastami, Grand Parents’ Day, Teachers’ Day, Children’s day, Independence Day and Republic Day.

Annual Athletics Meet

The Athletics Meet is a much awaited and a major event in the school calendar and is very significant as it involves the participation of the whole school. Again to ensure this, separate athletics meets are conducted for the primary, junior and the rest of the school. The points earned by the winners are added to the House points. These events help to develop a team spirit and a sense of belonging among the students

Melange

‘Melange’ is another eagerly awaited annual event of our middle and high school students. In this event, the students showcase their talent and learning in the activities they have opted for. Parents get a chance to see the progress and advancement of their children in the activities they are learning like guitar, keyboard, violin, drums, tabla, classical dances, roller skates, taekwondo, gymnastics and yoga.

Competitions, Art and Literary Fests and Exhibitions

At SBGJ, we believe that competitions in different areas improve teamwork and collaboration, enhance social and emotional learning, increase intrinsic motivation, enhance beneficial peer comparisons, strengthen academic concept, facilitate growth mindset, build mental toughness and improve risk analysis in the students.

For primary and junior students we have regular competitions conducted class wise like action songs, recitation, ‘show and tell’, ‘tell-a-tale’, ‘HAM’, spell bee, ‘spin-a- yarn , declamation etc.

Middle and senior school students take part in:
  1. Art Fest that allows children to compete in areas like sketching, painting, clay work, tattoo designing, craft, origami, rangoli designing, photography etc.
  2. Literary Fest that includes all literary events like debate, quiz, one-act play, recitation, jingle creation, declamation, wall magazine creation etc.
  3. Science Exhibition where students compete with others in science related areas like poster making and presentation, model making and presentation, quiz etc.

Investiture Ceremony

Investiture ceremony in our school is a very special event celebrated every year with great pomp and dignity to induct new leaders of the school. The investiture ceremony signifies the reliance and confidence that the school consigns in the students council. Donning the mantle of leadership and responsibility, the cabinet members also pledge to carry out their duties entrusted upon them to the best of their abilities. This gives them a feel of functioning of the administrative body and inculcates in them the leadership qualities. This is a very solemn occasion where the school head boy and head girl, the sports and outreach captains and all the house captains, vice captains and prefects are selected.

Morning Assemblies

Morning assembly in SBGJ is a very important and integral part of school activities where mentors and students come together every morning to start the day. This develops in students a feeling of affiliation and unity with the whole school, keeps them informed of all school events and motivates them with appreciation, rewards and accolades on their performances in various areas. We have separate assemblies for the junior and senior students.

For the junior and middle school assemblies, we have well planned assemblies where class wise students come forward to conduct the assembly with the theme being either the festival celebrated at that time of the year or important national and international days or any thought provoking idea that can lend itself to short skit, musical, dance, recitation etc. Morning prayer, school song, hymns, state or national anthem and principal’s address are all part of this solemn affair.

In the senior wing, all the students gather in the school auditorium to recite the school prayer, sing the school song or national anthem, watch small presentation on a particular topic and interact followed by teacher’s speech and principal’s address.

On Fridays, students gather in four different venues of the school for house wise assemblies. The house mistressses address their house members and brief them of all the house events. House assemblies instil a family feeling and oneness among the members.

Class XII Farewell

No matter whichever phase of life we are in, we all will agree that nothing beats school life. And that is why bidding goodbye to school is no easy feat. The school farewell is easily one of the most memorable and emotional days of a student’s life. The happiness of stepping into a new world is mixed with the sadness of leaving behind friends, teachers and the school. This is the reason why at SBGJ the Class XII farewell is a very special event with a day long programme of lighting lamps, felicitations, performances, video shows, games, music-dance sessions and sumptuous snacks and lunch.
