The Department of Assamese, Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti, Guwahati celebrated the Death Anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev, the 16th Century Vaishnavite saint with great devotion on Thursday, 20th August, 2020.
A virtual meet was organised on the occasion and a host of events such as Assamese Recitation, Debate, Extempore Speech and Art Competitions were held with great fervour. The event was initiated with a prayer of Ghoxha and concluded with the rendition of a Borgeet.
The highlight of the programme was the speech delivered by the renowned entrepreneur, Dr. Shyamkanu Mahanta, glorifying the contributions of Sankardev to the literature, art & culture, dramatics and social sphere which made this land known to the world. He also spoke about the relevance of the philosophy of Sankardev in present times.
It was indeed a great way to remember the teachings of this great personality in these times of strife and unrest.
