The three day Science Exhibition was hosted by Science Department of Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti School on 23rd - 25th November under the leadership of Mr. Medhi and Mrs. Nidhi, science exhibition in-charges which saw young enthusiasts from Grade 5 to 11 putting up wonderful exhibits comprising of innovative working models and projects. Every aspect and era of scientific advancement from Jurassic period to Human evolution to Mars Orbital Mission by India was portrayed. The exhibits were eye openers on various topics related to Green Energy, Innovation in Transport, Communication, Agriculture, Technology, Medicinal plants, scientific achievements and Environment.
The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest Mr. Sanjeeb Das, Regional officer, CBSE Guwahati. Other eminent judges were Prof. P. Iyer, IIT Guwahati, and Dr. Pijush Das, neurologist in N.H. Narayana Hospital and Dr. Partha Biswas, Pandu College. A talk on ‘Side effects of Mobile phones usage’ by Richa Ma’am was a wakeup call to the abuse our body is undergoing due to our increasing technological dependence. After that judges were taken to a Jurassic park setting titled ‘THE LOST WORLD’, constructed by Class 11. It had five different species of dinosaurs displayed along with their fossilised eggs. Then the esteemed judges stopped by the lobby area to have a look at the exhibits displayed there. This was followed by a prelims for scientific debate.
Day 2 was judged by Dr. Bela Sethi. Students of grade 9th and 10th participated in Declamation on scientists under the guidance of Ms. Anindita.
Power point presentations by 9th and 10th students followed under the guidance of Ms. Vasudha. The theme for ppts was ‘research beyond the books’ in which students were asked to do a research on topics from their syllabi. The aim of this activity was to promote scientific aptitude amongst students. Ms. Vasudha gave a talk on ‘Correlation between mental health and nutrition’. The talk highlighted the disastrous effect our fast paced lifestyle is having on our health and how proper nutrition can decrease incidence of mental health problems. A grand ending to the 2nd Day was with the scientific Debate which was much appreciated and applauded.
Day 3 was judged by Ms. Debahuti, Counsellor, Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti. It started with the skits on the theme ‘Save environment’ put up by students of class V and VI under the guidance of Ms. Richa. They kept the audience spellbound with their marvellous performance and were well appreciated by the judges.
Not to be left behind students of class VII and VIII under the guidance of Ms. Mehazabeen put up effective Mimes on ‘Disaster management’. Through this medium of silent expression, students were efficiently able to communicate ways to manage disasters like floods and earthquakes.
Students of class VII-VIII kept the audience mesmerised with their power point presentations next under the guidance of Ms. Mampi. Mrs. Vaishaly Sharma, Principal, Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti thanked all the participating teams and the science department for making this event a success and appreciated their novel projects and ideas and for putting up the event in such a short time.
Last but not the least, was the much awaited announcement of results. Jal house was declared the winner followed by Vayu House. At the end Vote of thanks was given by Ms. Nidhi, thanking everyone for making it a success.
The Exhibition was a much appreciated event. Enthusiasm and effervescence overflowed amongst students, teachers and parents!
